I know I shouldn’t have my sights on anything past November 4th, politics wise, but this is too fun to pass up:
David Brooks and David Frum and Peggy Noonan are dead people in the Republican Party. The litmus test will be: where did you stand on Palin?”
In hindsight, conservatives might think that Barry Goldwater’s crushing defeat sowed the seeds for both intellectual progress and political dominance, culminating in eight glorious years under Reagan. I don’t think they’ll ever say the same thing about a Palin defeat.
Followup: I hadn’t yet seen Ross’s relatively thoughtful followup, on why the Republican party continues to need new ideas, and shouldn’t think its moderates have lost the election.
